Reasons why the novel is not written and contemporary issues

The story of a novel is a story that the novelist presents at once with all the relationships and events and matters of life. The novel is a complete study of the life of a character. Sometimes a study of the whole of human civilization is offered.

The novel is a beautiful form of literature in which any character or era is studied.

Urdu novels started with the stories and tales of Nazir Ahmad and then novelists like Sharrer, Sarshar and Soda reached their peak. Then, little by little, the rapid flow of time replaced the novel with fiction. 

Same is the case with English or any other language  that the novels are being replaced by short stories.

There are many reasons why novels are not written. List of some of them are given below.

The first reason is that today's novelists do not have the right insight into life. They lack psychological insight. The novel is usually not in the hands of people whose general knowledge is extensive and whose study of nature is profound. The influence of time and space has given us some superficial interest in life, but this interest has not continued, with the result that the development of the novel has been stopped.

The second reason is social media, electronic media, thanks to which book reading has been lost today. The habit of reading is no more. Books have become the ornament of libraries. This electronic media has usurped the time to go to libraries. Going to the library is considered a waste of time. Although social media and electronic media are important, but they have hindered the writing of books, especially novels.

The third reason is the economic condition of the novelists. In the old days, a writer was either a courtier or kings patronised the writers and poets . In this way economic needs were met. And the whole focus of the novelist or writer was on art. But the feudal system deteriorated to such an extent that the writer's patron has now become public. The printing presses were established and the owners of these clinics patronized the writers and benefited themselves by selling their works.

The fourth reason is to give more importance to dry books of scholarly discussions in creative literature.

The fifth reason is that in the industrial age, fiction has replaced with novels. The reason is the increase in the busyness of life. Novels will not be read when there is little time for leisure, and novels will be written less when there are few readers.

The sixth reason is that the tradition of magazines developed fiction with articles and left the novel behind.

 The seventh reason is that the easiest source of fame today is poetry. Artificial fame is gained by doing poetry like this. But it is a fact that poetry needs a special ability  in addition to a special taste. Poetry is called good poetry when it comes by insight, not arrival.

The eighth reason is that inflation has made the printing of books more expensive. The price of books has gone up. Only a few people can buy books. Writing a novel is a difficult task in this era of high prices and poverty.

Because the novel interprets life, there is no time for novelists to take an in-depth look at life today. Novels are the best written when they are closer to life.

Due to the rise of modern issues, there is no hope for the development of the novel from the external conditions, but it is not known when the wind will turn and the novel will flourish again.

However, this is a revolutionary era in which writers should take a closer look at life. Study life in depth. Then there may be a chance where the tendency to write novels arises again.

At the same time, the government should patronize novelists. Because novelists are the capital of literature. If it is lost, literature will die.
