Operating system options and Installation methods

Operating  system options and Installation  methods

The OS is installed on the computer's hard disk, within an area called the hard disk partition. There are several ways to install a new operating system. The installation method is based on the software programs and requirements of the end user. Generally, you have four basic options for installing a new operating system:

Clean Installation

We can install a clean installation on a new computer or in those cases where there is no upgrade between the current and new operating system. This type of installation removes all data on the hard disk part where the current operating system is installed. The new PC needs a clean installation. You can also perform a clean installation when the current operating system installation is corrupted or malfunctioning.

Improve installation

Sometimes, it is also possible to make improvements. When you make an upgrade, OS configuration settings, installed programs and data are saved. With this installation you have nothing to worry about, because you will not lose personal information. You will simply replace the old system files with new, improved files. However, keep in mind that after the update of apps and drivers that are not compatible with the new OS will not work as expected.

Multi-boot installation

One way is to install multiple applications on one computer. You can install each OS within a separate disk partition and this way every OS will have its own files and configuration settings. In multiple boot installations, users see a menu when they turn on their computers and have to select the OS they want. After all, only one operating system can run at a time.

Doing things with the eyes

This is a new related method commonly used on servers. With good visual acuity we can use multiple copies of the operating system in one hardware set and build in this way many visual equipment. Every single visible device operates as a separate computer. These technologies make one body resource look like a lot of sensible resources.

Before starting any app installation you should make sure that all the hardware is guaranteed to work with the new operating system. Also, make sure that the hardware resources meet the minimum installation requirements. In addition, if you make an upgrade it is a good practice to scan the virus before starting the installation and to make a complete backup of all your personal data.

Another way to help protect your data is: Create multiple partitions on the hard disk and install a different OS for each partition. Then copy all your data into a blank partition that doesn't have an OS. This way you can improve the app without the risk of losing any data. Backup and restore data files is also easy with this design.

It is also important to determine the type of file system you will use. The file system controls how the OS stores and tracks files. There are many different file systems available. The most popular are: FAT 32, NTFS, HPFS, ext2 and ext3. The entire application is designed to use one or more of these files. There are advantages and disadvantages to every file system. Careful consideration should be given to the type of file systems supported by the selected OS and the individual benefits.

You can find many programs to change the system configuration and hard drive file system after installation, but it is best to avoid it if possible. When you modify a file system or partition structure on a hard drive, data loss may occur. Careful planning can help maintain data integrity.
